Daiquiri
White rum, lime and sugar, shaken hard and served straight up: three ingredients, nothing to hide.
The Daiquiri was created in 1898 by Jennings Stockton Cox, an American engineer working the iron mines near the town of Daiquirí in eastern Cuba. He mixed Bacardi rum, limes, sugar and ice; engineer Francesco Domenico Pagliuchi suggested naming it after the town. Admiral Lucius Johnson carried the drink to Washington’s Army & Navy Club, and it first appeared in a cocktail book in Jacques Straub’s 1914 Drinks.
