Cookie Policy
This policy explains the cookies and browser storage used on Bartender Stories, what each one does, how long it lasts and how you can change your choices.
Last updated: 19 October 2026
2. Your choice
When you first visit, our banner asks whether you accept optional cookies for analytics and advertising. Both are off by default. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" button in the footer.
If you reject optional cookies, we do not load Google Analytics or the AdSense banner and we clear any Google Analytics cookies already set. Your choice is stored in your browser so we can remember it.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop you from signing in or using parts of the service.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the service to function and do not need consent:
- bs_session: keeps you signed in. HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, lasts up to 30 days, set only after you sign in.
- bs-lang: remembers whether you chose English or Italian. Lasts 1 year and is set when you switch language.
- Server-side CSRF token: protects forms against cross-site request forgery. It is tied to your session and is not stored as a separate cookie.
4. Analytics cookies (only with consent)
We use Google Analytics 4 with measurement ID G-S6LC01LEE0 to understand how the site is used. Google Analytics cookies are set only after you accept analytics in the banner. Google does not log or store IP addresses for Google Analytics 4.
- _ga: distinguishes users. Lasts up to 2 years.
- _ga_S6LC01LEE0: keeps session state for this property. Lasts up to 2 years.
- _gid: distinguishes users for 24 hours.
- _gat: limits request rate. Lasts about 1 minute.
The data is processed by Google as our processor. You can also install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
5. Preference storage
We store a few small values in your browser’s local storage. These are not used for advertising or tracking:
- bs-analytics-consent: remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics.
- bs-ingredient-unit: remembers whether you prefer millilitres or ounces when reading ingredient quantities.
6. Advertising cookies
We display a small Google AdSense banner at the foot of the home page. It loads only after you accept optional cookies; before that, no advertising script or cookie is requested.
When the banner loads, Google and its partners may set or read cookies and use device identifiers to serve and measure ads. Depending on your consent and your Google ad settings, ads may be personalised. Google controls these cookies rather than us; they commonly include IDE (up to 13 months), _gcl_au (about 3 months) and test_cookie (about 15 minutes), and their exact use is governed by Google’s policies.
You can review or change ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com, manage ads in your Google account, and see Google’s practices at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. If we add other advertising partners, we will update this policy before they are enabled.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal. Our consent banner applies to every visitor regardless of those signals. We do not currently respond to them automatically, because our analytics are already off until you opt in.
8. Managing cookies
You can delete or block cookies in your browser’s privacy or security settings. Each browser is different; look for "cookies and site data" in its help pages. Deleting cookies signs you out and resets your language and consent choices.
To withdraw analytics consent without changing browser settings, use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer and choose reject. We then stop loading analytics and clear the analytics cookies.
9. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when our cookies change or the law requires it. The current version is always published here with its date. Questions: bartenderstories1@gmail.com.
