HISTORY

The Woo Woo is a 1980s highball built on the same vodka-and-peach-schnapps base as the Sex on the Beach, minus the orange juice and with cranberry doing all the work. It belongs to the wave of sweet, pink, three-ingredient drinks that filled bar menus in the decade, and it survives in Britain and Australia more than in the United States. Nobody has produced a convincing first-pour story for it.

SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS
  • Bottled and premixed versions appeared in the 1990s, which helped keep the recipe fixed at three ingredients.
VARIATIONS & RELATIVES
  • Woo Woo with a splash of lime
  • Peach Woo Woo (peach juice instead of cranberry)
