HISTORY

The Bloody Mary was created at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris in 1934, most often attributed to Fernand Petiot. Petiot later brought the drink to the St. Regis in New York, where it gained its spice rack and its reputation as a morning-after cure. Tomato juice, vodka, lemon and Worcestershire sauce make it the most savoury drink in the canon.

SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS
  • The St. Regis’s King Cole Bar became the drink’s most famous American home.
  • Countless regional spice blends and garnishes followed.
