HISTORY

The Blood and Sand was named after the 1922 Rudolph Valentino film and entered the Savoy Cocktail Book in 1930. Scotch, orange juice, cherry brandy and sweet vermouth make a drink that is both smoky and fruit-sweet. Its originator is unknown, and the drink’s reputation suffered from decades of badly made versions before the cocktail revival restored it.
