HISTORY

The Saratoga is a brandy cocktail with sweet vermouth and bitters, named for the fashionable New York resort town. It appears in the 1887 edition of Jerry Thomas’s guide and belongs to the same family as the Manhattan and the Martinez. It is richer and softer than either, with the vermouth doing most of the aromatic work.
