Rum, lime, sugar, mint and soda: Havana’s long, cool classic.
1930sHistorical classicResearched
The Mojito descends from el draque, a 16th-century mix of aguardiente, sugar, lime and mint named for Sir Francis Drake. The modern rum version took shape in Havana in the 1930s and became a global staple in the 2000s. It is essentially a rum Collins with mint, built in the glass and topped with soda.
