HISTORY

The Last Word was created at the Detroit Athletic Club, most likely by vaudeville performer Frank Fogarty in the 1920s. It survived in obscure bar books until the cocktail revival, when Murray Stenson of Seattle’s Zig Zag Café began making it in the 2000s. Equal parts gin, Chartreuse, maraschino and lime make a herbal, tart drink with a long finish.

SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS
  • Murray Stenson’s 2000s revival turned it into a modern bar staple.
