HISTORY

The sling is one of the oldest American mixed-drink families, made from spirit, sugar and water with a little citrus. The gin sling was a standard saloon order in the nineteenth century and appears in Jerry Thomas’s 1862 guide. Add soda and you have a Collins; add ice and a long glass and you have the highball.
