HISTORY

Egg nog grew out of posset, a warm milk-and-ale drink, and became a Christmas staple in the American colonies. Rum, brandy or whiskey was added, along with eggs, cream and nutmeg. George Washington was said to have served a famously strong version at Mount Vernon.
