Amaretto Sour
Amaretto, lemon and egg white: sweet, tart and softly bitter.
1970sHistorical classicResearched
The Amaretto Sour became popular in American bars in the 1970s, when sweet liqueurs dominated the drinks menu. Amaretto, lemon and egg white make a balanced sour; modern bartenders often add bourbon to dry it out. It is a survivor of the “dark ages” that has been rehabilitated by the revival.
