HISTORY

The toddy is a warm drink of spirit, sugar, water and spice, and it appears in British and Irish household manuals by the early nineteenth century. Whiskey, honey and lemon became the standard modern version. It is a close relative of the sling and the punch, simply served hot instead of cold.
